What kind of training should the water jetting team have?

All the members of the water jetting team must have the adequate training to perform the water jetting job, in accordance with their role. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that every worker receives training to be able to competently perform work safely.

As part of their training, workers should receive classroom instruction (lectures, discussions, videos, etc.) and hands-on, job-specific instruction (demonstrations, active participation by workers, etc.).

The following are some examples of topics that may be covered during the water jetting training of workers:

  1. Health and Safety Regulations of the country where the activity will take place.
  2. Basic waterjet hazards.
  3. High pressure pumps: basic principles and main components in their use, set up and maintenance.
  4. Water jetting principles (pressure and flow).
  5. Equipment and nozzle selection principles.
  6. Manufacturer’s operating manual.
  7. Emergency shutdown procedures.
  8. General safe work practices and safe work procedures.
  9. Hazard identification and risk controls.
  10. Personal protective equipment.
  11. First aid and medical aid for waterjet injuries.

Furthermore, a training record must be maintained for each new worker, listing topics covered and date of education or training. Education and training records should be reviewed periodically to ensure that training requirements have been met.
