Installation / Setting into operation

In order to ensure the functionality of hose assemblies and not to shorten their service life due to additional stresses, the following instructions shall be observed:
- Follow the general requirements.
- The hoses must be suitable for the maximum pressure and flow of the pump unit.
- The minimum bending radius shall not be undercut.
- The hose assembly shall be secured in an appropriate way if its weight might lead to excessive tensile strain, e.g. by hanging off high buildings.
- Ensure that the connection thread matches the mating part of the fitting.
- Under pressure, any hose can expand and contract by about 2 %. This must be considered when determining the length of the hose and the type of installation i.e. on a jetting unit, machine / fixed installation hoses on a CNC type machine or spray booth.
- While tightening the nuts of the fittings, care shall be taken that the fittings are not turned within the ferrules and the hose assembly is not twisted.
- Hose assembly shall not be secured at the ferrule by means of a vice or a heavy pipe wrench during, for example, nozzle assembly or attachment of an accessory i.e. jetting gun.
- Combined hose assemblies have to match each other in terms of their design (cf. EN 1829-2). The use of safety devices for connectors (whip-check cables, etc.), as recommended in 5.9 of EN 1829-2 (2008), shall be used whenever possible.
Burst protection sleeves (hose shroud) should be used where the hose connects to a handheld device (jetting gun) and must be at least 1.8 m (6 feet) long to offer protection to the operator in the event of a hose failure or leak at the connection.
Visual checks before installation / usage:
- Leaks at the hose fittings or in the hose.
- Check outer layer for cracks, bubbles / blistering, cleanliness, crushing, skinning of outer cover exposing wires and kinks.
- Inspect fittings for defective threads, clogs, cracks, tracking marks and rust.
- Also check for hose stretching, visible by narrowing of hose.
- Verify test date and pressure are in conformity with requirements for the application.
Do not use hose or fitting in these cases (remove from service immediately).
Measures in case of malfunction:
- Leakage can occur at the connections
Tighten connections or change O-Rings. Attention: The connections shall never be tightened while the hose assembly is under pressure. (De-pressurize and only use correct sized wrench). - Leakage can occur at the hose (e.g. blister on the outer cover)
The hose assembly shall be taken out of service immediately. The continued use of a leaking hose assembly is associated with a particular risk to the operator.
Based on the following examples, as shown below it is not possible to display all kinds of faulty or correct installing. In particularly difficult installation conditions, please contact the manufacturer.
