What kind of training should the water jetting team have for automated operations?

All the members of the water jetting team must have completed adequate training to safely perform the automated water jetting operations in accordance with their role. They must have general training for the use of water jetting equipment (for further information on the contents of this issue see the section about training in the “Guide about health and safety in water jetting” published by EWJI) and further training for the use of automated equipment.

In this respect, it must be noted that some countries require certification for the workers, but others do not, so local regulations should always be consulted. National associations can provide advice on this subject.

However, it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that every worker receives training to be able to competently perform work safely. The asset owner is also jointly responsible for confirming that the companies contracted for the industrial cleaning tasks have trained their personnel according to the appropriate requirements. In this sense, companies should produce documentation to validate that all their workers have received adequate training. Training records must be maintained for every worker, listing topics covered and the date of education or training. Education and training records should be reviewed periodically to ensure that training requirements have been met.

Additionally, there are companies that offer training and certification for third parties.

As part of their training, workers should receive classroom instruction (lectures, discussions, videos, etc.) and hands-on, job-specific instruction (demonstrations, active participation by workers, etc.).

Some national associations or training companies have their own training programs, contractors can use them for the training of their employees.

Manufacturers should provide a list of the minimum topics that should be covered in the training for using their machines.

In addition, depending on the activities being carried out in the facilities to be cleaned, the workers may require some other type of specific training. This point must be established jointly with the asset owner or coordinator.
