The Water Jetting Association (WJA), a member association of the European Water Jetting Institute (EWJI), has celebrated the first edition of its WJA Awards, recognising individuals and organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to the development, safety and professionalism of the water jetting industry.
The awards formed part of the association’s AGM and annual member event, held on 18 September in Kegworth, United Kingdom. More than 100 member representatives attended a programme that combined the Annual General Meeting, networking activities and an evening awards ceremony celebrating excellence across multiple areas of the sector.
Particular attention was given to recognising both emerging talent and long-standing industry leadership. The Young Person of the Year Award was presented to Alfie Jones, a 19-year-old apprentice water jetting operative whose commitment and professionalism impressed the judging panel during his first months in the industry. Meanwhile, the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Martin Gee, a respected industry figure whose contribution to water jetting safety, training and standards has spanned several decades.
The event also highlighted innovation and operational excellence across the sector. Rioned UK received the Innovation of the Year Award for its RioConnect intelligent jetting fleet management system, while Jetter Conversions was recognised as Manufacturer of the Year. Other categories celebrated excellence in training, operational performance, photography and member engagement.
Beyond the awards themselves, the event showcased the continued efforts of the WJA to strengthen the industry through training, technical guidance and member services. During the AGM, members reviewed progress made over the previous year, including new training programmes, the development of a new unified code of practice and additional benefits designed to support member companies.
Recognising the people shaping the future of the industry
One of the strongest messages emerging from the awards was the importance of supporting both experienced professionals and the next generation of talent. The recognition of young operatives alongside industry veterans reflected the sector’s commitment to maintaining high standards while ensuring knowledge and expertise continue to be passed on to future professionals.
At EWJI, we are delighted to see fellow association member WJA celebrating the individuals and organisations that help move our industry forward. Recognising excellence, innovation, leadership and professional development not only rewards achievement, but also helps raise standards and inspire future generations across the international water jetting community.
