Maintenance, inspection, periodic pressure test

Hose assemblies shall be replaced when the following criteria are found:

  • Damage to the outer cover, exposure down to the pressure reinforcement wires (chafing, cuts, cracks).
  • Deformations that do not correspond to the natural shape of the hose or hose assembly, both in the depressurized and pressurized state or when bent / oval due to being run over e.g. Layer separation, bubble formation.
  • Leakages
  • Hose has been stretched.
  • Damage or deformation of the hose fitting and / or hose connectors.
  • Storage and/or usage duration of the hose or hose assembly exceeded.
  • Signs of hose detaching from the fitting

Daily checks / Check before use:

Visual inspection regarding the above-mentioned problem cases. In case of visible damage, the hose assembly must be replaced or released by a qualified person.

Periodic Pressure-Tests:

It is recommended that new hose assemblies that have been stored for a period of more than 12 months are retested in a suitable test stand at 1.2 times the MAWP of hose assembly for at least 30 seconds before being used. This test should be applied to all hose assemblies, except those which are permanently installed for continuous use, on an annual basis unless a suitable risk assessment has been conducted and other testing intervals have been determined. Hose assemblies shall be free from hazardous substances before testing.

The test is successful if no leakage occurs.

Repair of hoses and hose assemblies:

Hose repairs (for example “repair” of damaged cover with duct tape) are not allowed.

Hose assembly repairs (for example cutting off one fitting and replacing it with a new one) are not recommended.
